Sample Scenario
Problem: A Private Investment Firm with a controlling interest in one of the B2B companies in its portfolio has a dilemma: The Company is planning to launch a mobile app for its Business Customers but doing so will require a significant investment of both time and money.
Solution: The Private Investment Firm puts together an hoc Portfolio Operations Team to advise the Company’s management team with regard to the development of this new mobile app for its Business Customers and the Team retains WHIZDOM to interview the Company’s Business Customer about how they might be able to use the mobile app in their business operations.
Result: The Portfolio Operations Team learns some new and unexpected insights upon reviewing WHIZDOM’s Business Customer Intelligence Report which was provided to them upon completing discussions with several of the Company’s Business Customers.
They discover (to their surprise) that if the Company moves forward with providing a mobile app to their Customers there will have unintended and unacceptable consequences:
- The Company’s Business Customers will also have an additional not inconsequential new expense: needing to provide an increased level of tech support to their own Customers
- The Company’s Business Customers expressed significant concerns that the number of email messages they might receive from their Customers could increase from an average of 55 per week to a projected 600+ per week (from people having trouble downloading, installing, logging in and/or using the mobile app)
- The Company’s Customers informed WHIZDOM they do not have the resources to respond to so many inquiries from their Customers about the new mobile app
Bottom Line: The Company decided to postpone launching their mobile app until they could address the problems that doing so would create for their Business Customers.
