Solutions for Independent Sponsors’ Portfolio Operations Teams

Overview

WHIZDOM works with Independent Sponsors’ Portfolio Operations Teams that offer ongoing hands-on support to the management teams of the B2B Companies in their portfolios.

WHIZDOM provides many benefits by providing their Portfolio Operations Teams with valuable information by conducting deep dive discussions with a Company’s Business Customers’ business leaders.

WHIZDOM works with:

  • Independent Sponsors that have Portfolio Operations Teams; and
  • Independent Sponsors who may not have Portfolio Operations Teams

In the latter case, WHIZDOM helps Independent Sponsors develop ad hoc, virtual, Portfolio Operations Teams to better serve the needs of their B2B portfolio companies and improve their own bottom line.

Deliverable

WHIZDOM provides Independent Sponsors with Business Customer Intelligence Reports that generally comprise:

  • Individual Business Customer Findings
  • Aggregate Business Customer Findings
  • Patterns and Trends Identification
  • WHIZDOM’s Analyses, Insights and Recommendations

Sample Scenario

Problem: An Independent Sponsor built a portfolio comprising three B2B Companies. The CEO of one of them believed the company could improve its bottom line if it had a better understanding about what their Business Customers spent money on other than on the Company’s products.

Solution: The Independent Sponsor supports the management teams of their portfolio companies and effectively acts as a Portfolio Operations Partner. However, they don’t have a good handle on the Company’s Business Customers and therefore could not advise the CEO wisely.

The Independent Sponsor retained WHIZDOM to conduct a deep dive with the Company’s most-valued Business Customers towards a goal of getting a better understanding of how they spend their money vis-à-vis what other products and services they buy from other companies and how much they spend with them.

Result: The Independent Sponsor collaborated with the Company’s CEO to brainstorm ways the Company might be able to capture more wallet share of their Business Customers.

From the insights WHIZDOM provided after it had discussions with executives of the Company’s Business Customers, and the information in WHIZDOM’s Business Customer Intelligence Report, the Independent Sponsor and CEO contemplated:

  • Adding a scheduling feature to the Company website so Business Customers would not need to use another Company’s software system for this capability
  • Licensing technology to enhance the Company’s product so Business Customers could cancel their other subscriptions
  • Possible future add-on acquisitions to enable the Company to act as a one-stop shop so its Business Customers could rely on fewer service providers in the future (which is something WHIZDOM learned was desired by the Company’s Business Customers)

Bottom Line: The Company improved its top and bottom lines over several years by increasing the wallet share from its Business Customers and had less reliance on finding new Business Customers to meet the Company’s revenue goals.
